From the minute you take off to the second you land, helicopter flying is a graceful and unforgettable experience. Start with a ground briefing where you'll be given a lesson on the effects of control before putting on your headset ready for take off. Your heart will race as the blades begin to spin and you are lifted gracefully into the air, before cutting through the clouds at up to 120mph. Experience the rush of soaring to heights of up to 1000 feet with your hands at the controls of a Robinson R22.
The views will amaze you and the feeling of total freedom that makes helicopter flying so addictive will live with you forever.
This hands on Atlanta flying lesson showcases the full spectrum of helicopter maneuvers with you in control wherever possible. You will interact with the pilot via the headset and be able to guide the helicopter using a dual control system.
You should be in moderately good health and weigh less than 240lb to enjoy this experience.
Itinerary
Ground school
Your flying lesson begins with a one-on-one ground school lesson with a Certified Flight Instructor in the classroom.
Pre-flight briefing
Following ground school, you and your instructor will head out to the flight line where you will receive step-by-step instruction on aircraft pre-flight principles.
Flight
Then, climb aboard a Robinson R22 helicopter and seize the controls. Experience what it's like to attempt to control, hover and fly the helicopter straight and level. Take-off for a short flight around the area with your instructor
Reservations
Reservations are required and can be made online or over the phone, with. Cancellations or rescheduling are permitted up to 24 hours before the flight without penalty; changes within 24 hours incur a $50 fee.
Weather
In case of inclement weather, flights may be canceled if visibility is below six miles or the cloud layer is under 600 feet; light rain is acceptable, but electrical storms or heavy winds are not.
Passengers
Passengers should arrive 30 minutes prior to departure to accommodate check-in procedures. There are no age restrictions; children under two can sit on a parent’s lap for free, while those over two require their own seat. Pregnant women can fly safely, as flights operate at low altitudes. The helicopters can accommodate up to four passengers plus the pilot, with a maximum individual weight limit of 300 lbs.
Other
Passengers are encouraged to bring phones for photos and videos, and there is no specific dress code; comfortable attire is recommended. Popular flight times include midday for optimal visibility, sunset for romantic views, and nighttime to see the city lights.
