Your journey begins with a pre-flight briefing from an FAA-certified instructor, covering essential flight concepts and safety procedures. Once inside the aircraft, you’ll taxi down the runway and take off for an exhilarating flight. Under expert supervision, you'll take control of the aircraft, performing basic maneuvers as you soar through the skies.

After landing, your instructor will answer any questions you have about flight training and becoming a pilot. Whether you're considering a career in aviation or just want to experience the joy of flying, this Discovery Flight is the perfect introduction.

Participation Guidelines

Who Can Take Part?

Age: Open to all ages.
Height: Participants must be between 5’1” and 6’5” tall.
Weight Limits:
- Individual limit: 240 lbs per person
- Flying with a friend? Combined weight cannot exceed 370 lbs
Physical Ability: Participants must be able to enter and exit the aircraft without assistance and take part in the flight lesson.

Additional Notes

Children: Kids are welcome as long as they meet the minimum height requirement of 5’1”.
Pets: Unfortunately, pets are not allowed during the experience.
Accessibility: The aircraft is not wheelchair accessible.

Experience Overview

What Happens on the Day?

Total Duration: Approximately one hour, including pre-flight briefing and 30 minutes flight time.
Flight Lesson Includes: Pre-flight briefing, hands-on flight experience, and post-flight discussion.
Who’s Onboard: Only participants and the FAA-certified instructor will be in the plane.
Spectators: Friends and family are welcome to watch from the designated viewing area.
Photos/Videos: You’re welcome to bring a camera and capture your experience.

Before You Arrive

Important Info to Know

Weather: This experience depends on safe flying conditions. If the weather isn’t suitable, your pilot will cancel and reschedule. Safety is always the top priority.
Arrival Time: Please arrive at your scheduled time.
Location/Parking: Parking is available at Norfolk Flight Center, located at Chesapeake Regional Airport.
What to Wear: Dress for the weather in comfortable clothes. Closed-toe shoes are required, and sunglasses are recommended.
What to Bring: Bring your photo ID, a camera, and sunglasses.
Prepayment & Cancellation Policy: Discovery Flights require prepayment at the time of reservation. A 24-hour notice is required for cancellations or rescheduling. A 10% administrative fee will be deducted from refunds for pre-paid Discovery Flights.
Gratuity: Tips for your pilot are not included in the cost of the experience.
Restrooms: Facilities are available at the check-in location.
