Whether you’re an aspiring aviator or simply curious about flying, this Discovery Flight gives you the perfect opportunity to take the controls and feel what it's like to be a pilot.

Your experience begins with a pre-flight briefing where an experienced FAA-certified flight instructor will introduce you to the aircraft’s controls, flight procedures, and safety measures. Then, step into the cockpit of a training aircraft and prepare for takeoff. Once in the air, you’ll get the chance to fly the plane under the guidance of your instructor, learning basic maneuvers and enjoying stunning aerial views of the Willamette Valley and Portland area.

After your flight, your instructor will provide a post-flight debriefing, answering any questions you have and discussing the next steps if you choose to pursue flight training. Whether it’s a one-time adventure or the beginning of your aviation journey, this experience is the perfect way to learn to fly!

Participation Guidelines

Who Can Take Part?

Age: Open to all ages.
Height: Participants must be between 5’1” and 6’5” tall.
Weight Limits:
- Individual limit: 240 lbs per person
- Flying with a friend? Combined weight cannot exceed 370 lbs
Physical Ability: Participants must be able to enter and exit the aircraft without assistance and take part in the flight lesson.

Additional Notes

Children: Kids are welcome as long as they meet the minimum height requirement of 5’1”.
Pets: Unfortunately, pets are not allowed during the experience.
Accessibility: The aircraft is not wheelchair accessible.

Experience Overview

What Happens on the Day?

Total Duration: Approximately 1.5 hours, including ground instruction and flight time.
Flight Lesson Includes: Pre-flight briefing, hands-on flight experience, and post-flight debriefing.
Who’s Onboard: Only participants and the FAA-certified instructor will be in the plane.
Spectators: Friends and family are welcome to watch from the designated viewing area.
Photos/Videos: You’re welcome to bring a camera and capture your experience.

Weather: This experience depends on safe flying conditions. If the weather isn’t suitable, your pilot will cancel and reschedule. Safety is always the top priority.
Arrival Time: Please arrive at your scheduled time.
Location/Parking: Parking is available at Aurora State Airport.
What to Wear: Dress for the weather in comfortable clothes. Closed-toe shoes are required, and sunglasses are recommended.
What to Bring: Bring your photo ID, a camera, and sunglasses.
Gratuity: Tips for your pilot are not included in the cost of the experience.
Restrooms: Facilities are available at the check-in location.
