Have you ever dreamed of piloting an aircraft? Now is your chance! This hands-on introductory flight at Dominion Aviation Flight Training lets you experience what it’s like to be a pilot. Under the guidance of an FAA-certified instructor, you’ll learn the fundamentals of flying and even take control of the plane as you soar above Richmond’s stunning landscapes.

Your journey begins with a pre-flight briefing, where your instructor will introduce you to the aircraft’s controls and flight procedures. Then, climb into the cockpit, taxi down the runway, and prepare for takeoff. Once airborne, you’ll have the opportunity to maneuver the plane, gaining firsthand experience of what it takes to be a pilot.

Enjoy breathtaking aerial views before smoothly touching back down. After landing, your instructor will debrief the flight and answer any questions. Whether you’re considering flight training or just want an unforgettable adventure, this experience is the perfect introduction to aviation.

Participation Guidelines

Who Can Take Part?

Age: Open to all ages.
Height: Participants must be between 5’1” and 6’5” tall.
Weight Limits:
- Individual limit: 240 lbs per person
- Flying with a friend? Combined weight cannot exceed 370 lbs
Physical Ability: Participants must be able to enter and exit the aircraft without assistance and take part in the flight lesson.

Additional Notes

Children: Kids are welcome as long as they meet the minimum height requirement of 5’1”.
Pets: Unfortunately, pets are not allowed during the experience.
Accessibility: The aircraft is not wheelchair accessible.

Experience Overview

What Happens on the Day?

Total Duration: Approximately 1 hour, including ground instruction and flight time.
Flight Lesson Includes: Pre-flight briefing, hands-on flight experience, and post-flight debriefing.
Who’s Onboard: Only participants and the FAA-certified instructor will be in the plane.
Spectators: Friends and family are welcome to watch from the designated viewing area.
Photos/Videos: You’re welcome to bring a camera and capture your experience.

Weather: This experience depends on safe flying conditions. If the weather isn’t suitable, your pilot will cancel and reschedule. Safety is always the top priority.
Arrival Time: Please arrive at your scheduled time.
- Location/Parking: Parking is available at Chesterfield County Airport
What to Wear: Dress for the weather in comfortable clothes. Closed-toe shoes are required, and sunglasses are recommended.
What to Bring: Bring your photo ID, a camera, and sunglasses.
Gratuity: Tips for your pilot are not included in the cost of the experience.
Restrooms: Facilities are available at the check-in location.
