Sailplanes are the most elegant way to fly. Glide on the same rising currents of air that the birds use, with no roaring engine to spoil the tranquility. You won't believe the views as you gaze down on the mountains and the Californian desert as never before. Carve through the air for up to 40 minutes as you rise on the ridgelifts, unique pockets of air created only in mountain areas.
The freedom of the air and sensation of total tranquillity will astound and amaze you on this extraordinary sailplane experience for two people.
On this outstanding adventure, you’ll enjoy unparalleled views of the Palomar Mountains while experiencing the total freedom of a sailplane in flight. At the end of your flight, take home the roll of film with pictures from your journey as well as your own complimentary log book.
If you are taller than 6’ 4”, you may not be able to fit into the aircraft. Maximum weight is around 260lb.
Itinerary
- Meet your FAA Certified Flight Instructor on arrival
- Spend time learning about the sailplane and the effects of control
- Enjoy a show-stopping 40 minute flight over the mountains
- Post flight checks carried out on landing
Arrival & Flight Details
• Arrive on time to meet your pilot and prepare for takeoff
• Total experience time is approximately 1–1.5 hours, including a 35–40 minute flight
• Launch site is located near the Palomar Observatory, west of Warner Springs, California
What to Bring
• Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing
• Sunglasses and sunscreen recommended
• A light jacket for cooler mountain air
• Camera (optional – must be secured when not in use)

• Flight reaches 5,280 feet (one mile high!) before release
