Overview

There’s something magical about watching the first light of day illuminate the dramatic cliffs, waterfalls, and valleys of the Columbia River Gorge. In this 3-hour photography experience, you'll learn how to harness the soft glow of sunrise to create vivid, professional-quality landscape images. With expert guidance and carefully chosen locations, this outing is designed for photographers ready to build on their foundational skills and embrace natural light photography at its finest.

You’ll visit multiple scenic viewpoints and waterfalls, arriving early to make the most of the morning atmosphere before the crowds set in. Along the way, you’ll receive personalized tips on lighting, framing, and long exposure techniques—perfect for capturing both the grandeur of wide vistas and the delicate flow of waterfalls. From shooting techniques to creative composition, this is an immersive experience that blends education with the pure joy of outdoor photography.

Whether you're looking to refine your manual mode shooting or experiment with filters and tripods in a real-world setting, this sunrise adventure provides the inspiration, setting, and hands-on practice you need to elevate your landscape photography.

  • 3-hour sunrise photography session along the Columbia River Gorge
  • Focus on landscape techniques, long exposures, and composition
  • Includes stops at four iconic photography locations
  • Small group format ensures individual attention and feedback
  • Great for intermediate-level photographers comfortable with camera basics
  • Participants drive their own vehicles between locations

Meet before dawn at the Women's Forum State Scenic Viewpoint. Here, you’ll set up for your first shots as the sun begins to rise over the Columbia River, capturing one of the most breathtaking views in the region.

Travel together in your own vehicles to the next location, the historic Vista House. Photograph its architectural beauty with the golden hour glow as your backdrop, and experiment with different framing angles to highlight the structure against the surrounding landscape.

Arrive early at Multnomah Falls, one of Oregon’s tallest and most iconic waterfalls. Capture flowing water from both ground level and the elevated Benson Bridge for varied perspectives. A short, paved walk will get you closer to the action if you wish.

Visit Latourell Falls, known for its vertical drop and dramatic basalt formations. You’ll practice capturing motion in water using longer exposures and ND filters, creating that smooth, ethereal waterfall effect.

Throughout the experience, your guide will provide on-the-spot instruction and feedback. You’ll discuss how to work with changing light conditions, how to meter for contrast, and how to compose clean, impactful shots.
